Eve: In the Beginning by H.B. Moore
genre: biblical fiction
The first love story on earth . . . Haunting . . . Lyrical . . . Unforgettable . . .
In a world where everything is perfect, yet the same day after day, Eve must decide if she wants to live forever in the garden with Adam and never know what lies beyond the walls. When she makes a choice with terrible consequences, the pain of mortality is swift. As she and Adam explore their new world, and her body changes, Eve discovers the sweetness of first love with the man who has always been at her side.
Why I Liked It
This was a fast-paced, engaging account of Adam and Eve. The author handled the subject matter with a delicacy and respect that I appreciated, while at the same time exploring some of the unknowns about our first parents. I love how she painted Eve as someone who was curious and craved knowledge, and not an evil temptress who tricked Adam into eating the fruit.
The love and concern Adam and Eve had for each other radiated through the page. The setting was interesting and blended well with the plot. I found myself saying “I’ll just read one chapter” and then reading five or six because I couldn’t put it down. I always enjoy Moore’s books, but this one goes up near the top of my list of favorites. Very well done. I hope she writes a sequel!
